For many years, card games of all kinds have been enjoyed by people of all ages. While for a very long time it seemed that playing cards was frowned upon in certain religious sectors, today there are many churches who organise card games as a way to socialize. Many of you may remember when you were children that it was considered sinful to play cards, thus you werent allowed to even know what a deck of playing cards was.
That is not so anymore. This way of believing seems to have gone by the wayside and most people are quite happy about that. There are even companies now that make different types of card games specifically for children. These include Old Maid, Go Fish, and the Match Game. Even the very young children can play the Match Game as it is a wonderful teaching tool. Colours, numbers and shapes can all be learnt while playing the Match Game. Its so much fun to play that the kids wont even notice theyre learning something.
Eventually, it was decided that the sinful aspect of playing card games had little to do with the cards themselves and everything to do with betting money on these games such as Blackjack. It seems that the BETTING was the sinful act rather than just playing with the cards. How could a deck of playing cards be sinful? They arent, but the act of betting on such games as Poker and Blackjack seem to have given playing all types of card games a bad name.
Its nice that today, most of those antiquated beliefs are no longer in effect. However, you may come upon a fundamentalist church now and then that still holds those old beliefs and refuses to sanction their members engaging in any sort of card playing activity. Those are, thankfully, few and far between.
